Dr Harish Mithiran Muthiah is a thoracic surgeon at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore. He has more than 17 years of experience in Europe and Singapore as a cardiothoracic surgeon. He also founded the Initiative to Promote Research and Innovative Technology in Surgery, which has helped more than 150 students and postgraduates kick-start their academic career in this field. Lim Yeong Phang

Dr Lim Yeong Phang is a cardiothoracic surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore. He is experienced in performing minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass (MIDCAB) via the chest wall without cutting through any bone, as well as hybrid coronary revascularisation (a combination of surgical bypass and percutaneous stenting) with interventional cardiologists. Dr Lim was formerly a medical officer in the Republic of Singapore Air Force. He chose to train in surgery and joined the department of cardiothoracic surgery at the Singapore General Hospital in 1998, and was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan (HMDP) fellowship in 2005 to the Cleveland Clinic, USA, where he trained in congenital heart surgery. When he returned to Singapore in 2006, he was appointed as a consultant at the National Heart Centre (NHC) and subsequently as senior consultant. He was also appointed as visiting consultant to KK Women's and Children’s Hospital. He spent 3 months in Wuhan Asia Heart Hospital in China as a recipient of the SingHealth Talent Development Scheme in 2007. Through a grant from the Ministry of Health, Singapore, Dr Lim established the National Cardiovascular Homograft Bank in 2008 at NHC with his colleagues and serves as its medical director. In 2012, Dr Lim was appointed as the director of the cardiac operating theatre at NHC. Dr Lim promoted the use of Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) in Singapore and was co-director of the ECMO programme at NHC. He organised an ECMO symposium as a part of the 17th SGH Annual Scientific Meeting, and organised training for intensivists, respiratory physicians and cardiologists during the H5N1 pandemic in 2009. He is a member of the International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery, the Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons of Asia, Singapore Cardiac Society and Chapter of Cardiothoracic Surgeons, Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He has served as the chairman of the NHC Health Lifestyle Committee. Loh Yee Jim

Dr Loh Yee Jim is a cardiothoracic surgeon practising at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital. His research interests lie in paediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery, adult heart surgery, and endoscopic vein harvesting. Dr Loh has been in medical practice for more than 18 years, and was trained in paediatric cardiothoracic surgery at the Boston Children’s Hospital, an affiliate of the Harvard Medical School, in the US. Upon his return to Singapore, Dr Loh headed the paediatric cardiothoracic surgery department at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital until 2018. Sriram ShankarFRCS

Dr Sriram Shankar is a cardiothoracic surgeon practising at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore. His interests are in adult cardiothoracic surgery, adult vascular surgery, paediatric cardiothoracic surgery and paediatric vascular surgery. He trained in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Middlesex Hospital in London and subsequently worked at the Brompton Hospital in London, Harefield Hospital in Uxbridge and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. While he runs his practices at Gleneagles and Mount Elizabeth Hospitals, Dr Shankar is also a Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at National Heart Centre. Dr Shankar was the recipient of Dr Rama Rao Gold Medal Anatomy in 1978, First Prize of Honor in Microbiology in 1980 and Service Quality Bronze in 2001. Dr Shankar moved to Singapore in September 1990 but returned to England in 1995 to further specialise. During this stint, he spent a year with Dr William J Brawn FRCS and Dr B Sethia, FRCS at the Children’s Hospital in Birmingham. Dr Shankar has since helped establish the Paediatric Cardiothoracic service at the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, where he was the Head of services till March 2009. Dr Shankar has had extensive experience with Adult Cardiac Surgery, having performed over 1000 off-pump procedures for patients with Coronary Artery Disease. He is trained to undertake Valve restorative operations for both Children & Adults, with vast experience in both. He has had excellent results with patients with aortic disease, especially aneurysm surgery and surgery for acute type 1 aortic dissection. Su Jang Wen

Dr Su Jang Wen is a cardiothoracic surgeon practising at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore. He has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery such as video assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and has successfully applied such techniques to coronary artery bypass surgery, valvular surgery (aortic, mitral and tricuspid), atrial septal defect closure, arrhythmia surgery, ventricular aneurysm repair and acute ventricular septal rupture. He has a great interest in treating critically ill cardiac and thoracic surgical patients, and is active in membrane oxygenator (ECMO) services, performing 25 – 30 ECMO procedures per year across multiple private hospitals. Dr Su is one of the cardiothoracic surgeons accredited to perform both heart and lung surgery. Since 2007, Dr Su has carried out more than 5,000 heart, lung and oesophageal surgeries, and he is currently performing more than 350 surgeries per year. Dr Su graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Melbourne, Australia in 1998. Subsequently, he obtained his membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 2002 and his Master of Medicine from the National University of Singapore in 2003. In 2006, he became a Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons (Cardiothoracic Surgery, Edinburgh) and was awarded the gold medal for the Fellowship examination. In the same year, Dr Su became a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Singapore) – Gold Medallist. In 2007, Dr Su was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan fellowship by the Ministry of Health, Singapore. He became a Chief Fellow of the Thoracic Surgery & Lung Transplantation Programme at the Cleveland Clinic in the United States of America. He also completed a fellowship in adult cardiac surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, where he underwent training by many world renowned surgeons and received an award for best research paper. Upon returning to Singapore in 2009, Dr Su served as a consultant in the department of cardiothoracic surgery at the National Heart Centre Singapore. He also served as an adjunct assistant professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School and was a clinical physician faculty member for SingHealth’s residency programme where he was in charge of thoracic surgery training. He is a member of the International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery (ISMICS), International Society of Heart Lung Transplantation, Singapore Oncology Society, Singapore Cardiac Society, Singapore Thoracic Society, Singapore Heart Lung Transplantation Society, Chapter of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Academy of Medicine, Singapore. Dr Su has given presentations at international meetings, and has received the Best Paper Awards for some of them. He has also given lectures on minimally invasive cardiac and thoracic surgery in various countries. He has published his cardiac and thoracic paper in multiple peer-reviewed international medical journals and has co-authored the textbook chapter on “Minimally Invasive Approaches to Lung Cancer” in Greene’s Minimally Invasive Cancer Management.
