Dr. Ong is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon with extensive experience in coronary artery bypass surgery and pediatric cardiac surgery. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore and subsequently underwent advanced postgraduate training, including an HMDP fellowship in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, Neonatal Cardiac Surgery, and Arrhythmia Surgery. Throughout his career, Dr. Ong has held several key leadership positions. He was appointed Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery and also served as Deputy Director of the Singapore Heart Centre (now known as the National Heart Centre) from 1996 to 1997. He continues to contribute to the field as a Visiting Consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery at both the National Heart Centre and the National University Hospital. Dr. Ong played a pivotal role in advancing cardiac care in Singapore, including establishing the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Training Programme at Singapore General Hospital in the 1980s. His clinical expertise spans both adult and pediatric cardiac surgery, with a particular focus on coronary artery bypass grafting and complex congenital heart conditions in children.
