Overview
Urinalysis is a diagnostic test that examines a sample of urine to check the health of the kidneys, urinary tract, and other organ systems.
During the test, a small amount of urine is collected and then studied in three ways: its colour and clarity are noted by eye, a chemical strip called a dipstick is dipped into the sample to detect substances such as protein, sugar, blood, or signs of infection, and the sample is looked at under a microscope to spot cells or crystals that should not normally be there. Together, these three steps give the doctor a broad picture of what is happening inside the urinary system and sometimes beyond it.

- 4. You begin to urinate into the toilet, then — without stopping — move the container into the stream to collect the middle portion of the urine. This 'mid-stream' sample avoids bacteria from the skin entering the container.

Aftercare
