What to Expect
- Pre-admission visit: AP pelvis X-ray and CT scan completed; MAKO 3D surgical plan reviewed with the surgeon
- Admission morning: pre-anaesthetic assessment, consent documentation, and surgical site marking
- MAKO robotic-assisted total hip replacement performed in a laminar-flow orthopaedic theatre — approximately 90 minutes
- 2 to 3 hours in the post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU) with continuous haemodynamic monitoring
- Return to Deluxe Room; physiotherapist visits Day 1 for passive hip mobilisation and deep breathing exercises
Preparation
- Complete all pre-operative blood tests (FBC, coagulation profile, group and screen, HbA1c if diabetic) at least 5 days before surgery
- Cease anticoagulant medications (warfarin, rivaroxaban, apixaban) as directed by the surgeon — typically 3 to 5 days pre-operatively
- Stop aspirin 7 days before surgery unless otherwise instructed by your cardiologist
- Fast from midnight the night before surgery; clear fluids are permitted up to 2 hours before the scheduled start time
- Shower with chlorhexidine gluconate 4% wash the night before and on the morning of surgery
