What to Expect

Preparation
- Complete all pre-operative blood tests (FBC, coagulation, group and screen) at least 5 days before surgery
- Cease anticoagulant medications (warfarin, rivaroxaban, aspirin) as directed by the surgeon — typically 5 to 7 days pre-operatively
- Fast from midnight the night before surgery; sips of water are permitted until 2 hours before the scheduled start time
- Shower with chlorhexidine antiseptic wash the night before and on the morning of surgery
- Remove nail polish, jewellery, and hearing aids before arriving at the hospital on the day of surgery
