What to Expect
- Pre-operative consultation and imaging: standing X-rays and CT scan for robotic templating

- Hospital admission on the morning of surgery with pre-anaesthetic assessment by the anaesthetist
- MAKO robotic-assisted total knee replacement performed in a laminar-flow orthopaedic theatre
- 2 to 3 hours in the recovery room under close nursing observation post-operatively
Preparation
- Complete all pre-operative blood tests (FBC, coagulation, group and screen) at least 5 days before surgery
- Cease anticoagulant medications (warfarin, rivaroxaban, aspirin) as directed by the surgeon — typically 5 to 7 days pre-operatively
- Fast from midnight the night before surgery; sips of water are permitted until 2 hours before the scheduled start time
- Shower with chlorhexidine antiseptic wash the night before and on the morning of surgery
- Remove nail polish, jewellery, and hearing aids before arriving at the hospital on the day of surgery
