Metabolic blood spot results from the national programme are sent directly to the Ministry of Health and the family; processing time is 3 to 4 weeks
A referral for follow-up audiology testing or orthopaedic assessment, if required, is not included in the package cost
The lactation consultation covers one 1-hour session; additional consultations are available at standard rates

What to Expect
- Arrive with your newborn (aged 0 to 4 weeks) at the Paediatric Outpatient Clinic at the scheduled morning time
- Registration and baseline measurements: weight, length, and head circumference
- Full newborn physical examination by the paediatrician including cardiac, neurological, and musculoskeletal assessment
- Transcutaneous bilirubinometry performed on the forehead and sternum — painless and takes less than one minute
- Newborn metabolic blood spot heel prick performed by the paediatric nurse
Preparation
- Schedule the appointment between the newborn's 3rd and 14th day of life for optimal metabolic and jaundice screening accuracy
- Feed your baby 30 to 60 minutes before the appointment so they are settled but not hungry during the examination
- Bring your baby's red booklet (Child Health Booklet) and any discharge summary from the birth hospital
- Dress your baby in loose, easy-to-remove clothing for the physical examination
- Bring at least two sets of spare clothing, nappies, and feeding supplies for the 2 to 3 hour session
