He also trained in Germany to become part of the first group of local gastroenterologists to be proficient in intestinal ultrasound. At NTFGH, he was a member of the hospital’s nutrition support team and was the main gastroenterologist responsible for the care of malnourished patients on parenteral nutrition as well as patients with short bowel syndrome and intestinal failure. Besides his clinical work, he taught medical students from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He was also a clinical preceptor to Master of Nursing students from NUS. Dr Chen has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications in medical journals such as the British Medical Journal Open Gastroenterology and the POCUS journal. He is also an invited speaker at local and regional conferences about various topics related to inflammatory bowel disease and intestinal ultrasound.
