About Mr. Mr.
After earning his PhD (Medical Science) from the Graduate School of Medicine at Kyoto University through research on personalized pluripotent cell development, Dr. Matsumura has led cutting-edge studies in aging medicine, stem cell biology, and neuroscience—including mechanisms of memory formation and the dynamics of stem cell aging.
He has held academic positions as Assistant Professor at Tokyo Medical and Dental University and Specially Appointed Lecturer at the Institute of Medical Science, The University of Tokyo. Since 2024, he has served as Associate Professor (Special Appointment) in the Goda Laboratory’s endowed program on “Cell Senescence Control” at the Graduate School of Science, The University of Tokyo, where he leads research aimed at uncovering the fundamentals of aging control and creating next-generation therapies.
By integrating nanotechnology, ultra-high-speed imaging, and data science, Dr. Matsumura has developed original imaging technologies that are opening new frontiers in aging research. As first author, he has published extensively in leading journals, including Science (2016), Nature (2019), and Nature Aging (2021), and has secured multiple patents and competitive research grants.
He has received more than 11 international awards from organizations such as the International Society for Stem Cell Research and the European Society for Dermatological Research, and is actively committed to mentoring the next generation of researchers.
