About Dr. Lau

Dr David Lau is an ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon currently practising at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore. His main subspecialty interests are in nasal allergies and sinus disorders. Dr Lau has 30 years of experience in ENT in the UK, Canada and Singapore. Dr Lau has a substantial body of local and international experience, on-going academic and scientific work. He received his early surgical training in the United Kingdom, working in hospitals such as St Mary’s Hospital in London, the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, and the prestigious Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. He received his Fellowship in Otolaryngology from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1996. Dr David Lau subsequently undertook a fellowship in Laryngology and Voice Disorders at the University of British Columbia, Canada from 2000 to 2002 under the tutelage of world-leading laryngologist, Professor Murray Morrison. His time in Vancouver culminated in a Master of Surgery degree from the University of British Columbia in 2002. Dr David Lau returned to Singapore and established the Voice Clinic at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH). He is internationally recognised as one of the region’s foremost laryngologists. He directed the first SGH ENT Laser Workshops in 2008 and 2012, first Trans-nasal Esophagoscopy Workshop in 2008, and Workshop on Multidisciplinary Management of Dysphagia & Swallowing in 2010, alongside many other workshops and seminars for GPs and other ENT specialists. Dr Lau has presented numerous research papers at local, regional and international otolaryngology conferences, and has won several awards for his clinical and research work, including at the notable COSM meeting in the USA. He is also widely-published in numerous publications and journals including the Laryngoscope, Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery, Clinical Otolaryngology, and Head & Neck. He was senior clinical lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine He is also currently on the examining board of the Master of Medicine and Academy of Medicine Otolaryngology examinations and continues with cross-disciplinary research and teaching. Dr Lau has two main subspecialty interest areas – nasal allergy and sinus disorders. Dr Lau studied the techniques of endoscopic sinus surgery under pioneer Prof Heinz Stammberger early in his ENT career and worked with one of the early movers of endoscopic sinus surgery in the United Kingdom, Dr Robin Youngs. In Singapore, he trained under internationally renowned endoscopic sinus surgeon Professor DS Sethi at the Singapore General Hospital. He has published on clinical aspects of sinus disorders and co-directed a number of sinus surgery courses. He is also responsible for setting up the ENT allergy service at SGH. Dr Lau has practiced endoscopic sinus surgery for many years including revision surgery, image guidance surgery and more recently minimally invasive balloon sinuplasty. Dr Lau treats ear, nose and throat disorders in adults and children. He has accumulated many years of experience in the management of a broad range of ENT conditions including nasal allergy, nasal polyps, sinus disorders, nasopharyngeal cancer screening, snoring and sleep apnoea, hearing loss, tinnitus and dizziness, acute & chronic ear disease, neck lumps including thyroid nodules and salivary gland disorders, and multi-disciplinary management of head and neck cancers. Dr David Lau treats the spectrum of diagnosis and management of disorders of the throat, larynx, voice and swallowing, including sore throat, tonsillitis, chronic cough, globus pharyngeus, chronic laryngitis, irritable larynx, hoarseness, professional and performing voice, swallowing problems, breathing difficulties, early cancers of the voice box requiring laser surgery, surgical and non-surgical management of dysphagia, and tracheostomy management. He is skilled in the field of voice surgery including office-based laryngeal surgery, use of botulinum toxin in the larynx, office-based and surgical treatment of vocal fold paralysis, and microsurgery & laser surgery of the larynx.

She graduated from the National University of Singapore and is a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, UK. She was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan award and completed her fellowship training in fertility sparing management in gynaecological cancers at The Royal Women’s Hospital, Australia. At KKH, she spearheaded Singapore’s first gynae-oncofertility service, which provides holistic care for young women with early-stage gynaecological cancer, helping them to retain their fertility. Dr Chin was also instrumental in implementing the KKH endometrial hyperplasia management guideline, which standardises and streamlines care for women with endometrial hyperplasia. She has been practising medicine for more than 15 years. Dr Chin is passionate about raising awareness on gynaecological cancers and patient advocacy. She sits on the board of the GyneCologic Cancer Group Singapore, and volunteers with the Himalayan Women’s Health Project, which performs yearly cervical cancer screening in Ladakh, India. Dr Harish completed his medical school and upon completing his basic surgical training, joined NUH where he began this training in cardiothoracic surgery. While at NUH, he started the robotic thoracic surgery programme and the rib fracture fixation programme. He has performed more than 2,500 thoracic surgeries since 2014. He also performs novel lung surgery techniques including U-VATS, RATS, lung localisation techniques and navigational bronchoscopy. He has been practising medicine for more than 15 years. He was the associate programme director for the cardiothoracic residency programme and a clinical tutor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. Prior to private practice, Dr Wong was a consultant medical oncologist at Johns Hopkins Singapore International Medical Centre (JHSIMC) and Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). He was also a visiting consultant medical oncologist for the National Healthcare Group (NHG). He graduated from the University of Melbourne, Australia and then underwent training in medical oncology in Victoria, Australia, culminating in a fellowship in the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Dr Wong holds a clinical diploma in palliative care from the Victorian Chapter of Palliative Medicine, Australia. While at JHSIMC and TTSH, Dr Wong was involved in multidisciplinary tumour boards in gastrointestinal, thoracic and genitourinary malignancies, and led a number of clinical trials. He has also been an invited speaker regionally. Besides his clinical work, he was the programme director of NHG’s medical oncology training programme. He also served as a member of TTSH’s drug and therapeutics committee. Dr Wong was a clinical teacher at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine at Nanyang Technological University. He has lectured at various oncology meetings at both national and regional levels, especially on the topic of genitourinary cancers, and given several public talks on cancer awareness.

He graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He spent a year at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, South Korea, for his clinical and research fellowship, mastering laparoscopic and robotic surgery for gastric cancer. Dr Kim has a strong interest in innovation in surgery, embracing technology such as artificial intelligence and robotics to improve existing techniques and help patient outcomes. He also is an early adopter of new techniques, being part of the team that performed the first pressurised intraperitoneal aerosolised chemotherapy (PIPAC) procedure in Asia, conducting several first-in-the-world trials on PIPAC, and also being the first in the region to successfully perform mediastinoscopy-assisted transhiatal esophagectomy for patients in whom conventional esophagectomy approaches were not feasible. He has also recently performed the first endoscopic full thickness resection for submucosal tumours of the stomach and the first endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty for bariatric patients at NUH. He was a clinical lecturer for the department of surgery, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, before being appointed an assistant professor. He has been involved in postgraduate education and was the programme director of the National University Health System’s general surgery residency programme. Dr Kim has authored more than 50 papers and has also served as an instructor at local and regional endoscopic and surgical workshops, and has been invited to speak at international conferences on robotic surgery, artificial intelligence in upper gastrointestinal surgery, and on surgical innovation and techniques. He is a reviewer for several journals including the Annals of Surgical Oncology and Obesity Surgery. He currently serves as president-elect, executive committee of the Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society of Singapore, the upper gastrointestinal lead and board member of the Robotic Surgery Society of Singapore, and the national coordinator for The Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons Society. He is also a member of the Singapore Medical Association, and Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia Society. Dr Kim also has a passion for cancer survivorship, helping to organise and facilitate the upper gastrointestinal support group at NUH. He is a recipient of the Alexandra Hospital’s Esprit de Corps Award and the COVID-19 Resilience Medal.
