Dr. Tan Yu-Meng is the Director and co-founder of FeM Surgery and an experienced Surgical Oncologist with expertise in hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery, liver transplantation, and complex cancer surgery. He graduated from Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School, now part of Imperial College of Medicine, University of London, with First Class Honours and Distinction in Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1994. He later completed general surgery training at Singapore General Hospital and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1999. During his surgical training, Dr. Tan received multiple accolades including the Young Surgeons Award at the Asian Surgical Congress in 2001. He subsequently underwent advanced training in HPB surgery and liver transplantation at the renowned Liver Unit of Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, United Kingdom, and further specialised in living donor liver transplantation in Japan under Professor K Tanaka. Dr. Tan was a founding member of the liver transplant team at Singapore General Hospital and later became Deputy Head and Senior Consultant of the Department of Surgical Oncology at the National Cancer Centre Singapore, as well as Surgical Director of the Liver Transplantation Programme at Singapore General Hospital in 2007. Under his leadership, the team performed the first successful split liver transplant at SGH and Asia’s first combined Heart-Liver Transplantation in 2009. He also pioneered advanced surgical techniques for peritoneal surface malignancies, including peritonectomy and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC), and remains one of the few surgeons in Asia performing these specialised procedures.
