Dr. Tan Yew Oo is a senior medical oncologist and hematologist with decades of experience in cancer care, hematology, medical education, and clinical research. He graduated with Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1971 before pursuing advanced postgraduate training in the United States and Canada. He completed residency training in Internal Medicine, fellowship training in Hematology, and additional fellowship training in Medical Oncology. Dr. Tan was certified as Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology, and also obtained specialist certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Internal Medicine and Hematology. Prior to private practice, he served as Chief of Medicine, Head of the Department of Medicine, and Head of the Division of Hematology-Oncology at the National University Hospital (NUH), and was appointed Professor of Medicine at NUS. Widely regarded as one of Singapore’s pioneering medical oncologists, Dr. Tan helped establish the specialty of medical oncology in Singapore General Hospital (SGH) and NUH. Beyond clinical work, he remained actively involved in postgraduate medical education, specialist accreditation, and healthcare leadership through appointments with the Ministry of Health, Specialist Accreditation Board, Singapore Health Services, and Eastern Health Alliance. Dr. Tan has published extensively in medical journals, participated in international phase III clinical trials involving novel therapies, and continues to contribute to oncology advancement through regional and international medical conferences.
