Dr. Look Chee Meng Melvin

Dr. Melvin Look Chee Meng is a Consultant General Surgeon practising at PanAsia Surgery Group and a Visiting Consultant at Thomson Specialists, Thomson Medical Centre. He specializes in gastrointestinal surgery with a particular focus on upper gastrointestinal cancers, therapeutic endoscopy, and advanced laparoscopic surgery. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for pioneering minimally invasive surgical techniques in Southeast Asia while delivering comprehensive care for complex gastrointestinal diseases. His clinical expertise includes the surgical management of stomach, oesophageal, pancreatic, and abdominal cancers, therapeutic endoscopy including ERCP, radical cancer resections, peritonectomy, and advanced laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery. He has pioneered several innovative laparoscopic procedures in the region and continues to provide highly specialized surgical care using minimally invasive approaches whenever appropriate. Dr. Look graduated from the National University of Singapore before obtaining Fellowships from both the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow. He completed advanced upper gastrointestinal cancer surgery training at the National Cancer Center Hospital, Tokyo, under a Ministry of Health Fellowship, and later served as an Honorary Consultant in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Beyond clinical practice, he has made substantial contributions to surgical education, establishing the first Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES)-endorsed laparoscopic training centre outside the United States. He continues to teach surgeons across Singapore and the region while remaining actively involved in academic medicine and international surgical training.
