Dr. Edwin Heng Chia Kian

Dr. Edwin Heng is a Periodontist with extensive clinical, academic, and leadership experience in periodontal surgery and implant dentistry. He previously served in the Singapore Armed Forces as Head Dental Officer (2006–2008) and Head of General Staff, HQ Medical Corps (2010–2011). After leaving military service in 2011, he transitioned into private practice while continuing active involvement in dental education and professional leadership, including serving as Vice President of the Singapore Dental Association (2010–2012). Dr. Heng graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1999, where he received the gold medal for best all-round final year dental student. He was awarded the SAF Postgraduate Scholarship in 2001 and went on to obtain a Master’s in Oral Biology and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Periodontology from Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine in 2004. He attained his Fellowship of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS) in Periodontology in 2010. Dr. Heng further expanded his academic exposure as Visiting Adjunct Faculty at Harvard University School of Dental Medicine (2008–2009), contributing to both clinical and didactic periodontal training. He has also served as Visiting Consultant at Alexandra Hospital and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. He is actively involved in continuing dental education, regularly lecturing and conducting hands-on courses in periodontics and implant dentistry across Asia. He is also an international speaker and consultant for dental implant and periodontal companies. In 2016, he was appointed Clinical Professor (Adjunct) at Kanagawa Dental University in Japan, becoming the first Singaporean dentist to hold this position.
