Dr. Edward Cheong Chee Keong is a Senior Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgeon with over 29 years of experience in advanced laparoscopic GI surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and endoscopic treatment for early upper gastrointestinal cancers. His expertise focuses on the management of diseases affecting the esophagus and stomach, combining innovative surgical techniques with enhanced recovery protocols to achieve optimal patient outcomes. After completing six years of higher specialist surgical training at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in the United Kingdom, Dr. Cheong pursued a prestigious post-CCT Senior Surgical Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, USA. There, he trained under internationally renowned pioneers in minimally invasive oesophagectomy, oesophago-gastric surgery, bariatric surgery, and endoscopic treatment for early esophageal and gastric cancers. Prior to joining PanAsia Surgery, Dr. Cheong served as Upper GI Cancer Director and Senior Consultant Upper GI Surgeon at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in the UK, where he introduced minimally invasive oesophagectomy (MIO), Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), and advanced endoscopic cancer treatments. His department consistently achieved national recognition for excellent surgical outcomes.
