With more than 40 years of clinical experience, he specializes in colorectal surgery and minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, providing comprehensive surgical care for patients with colorectal diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, and abdominal conditions. His practice focuses on delivering safe, evidence-based treatments that promote faster recovery and improved long-term outcomes. Dr. Cheong has extensive expertise in the diagnosis and management of colorectal cancer, anal disorders, diverticular disease, gallbladder disorders, and hernias. He performs advanced laparoscopic procedures for colon and rectal cancer, hernia repair, thyroid surgery, and other minimally invasive gastrointestinal operations. Throughout his career, he has played a significant role in advancing colorectal surgery services and improving multidisciplinary digestive disease management in Singapore. After graduating from the National University of Singapore in 1983, Dr. Cheong completed advanced surgical training and obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He further enhanced his expertise through multiple Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) awards, undertaking specialized training in colorectal and laparoscopic surgery at internationally renowned institutions including Cleveland Clinic Florida, St Mark's Hospital (London), Karolinska Institute, Uppsala University (Sweden), the Australasian Endosurgery Centre (Brisbane), and Royal North Shore Hospital (Sydney). Prior to private practice, he served as Senior Consultant and Head of Colorectal Surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where he established the Digestive Disease Centre and helped develop medical and radiation oncology services. Beyond clinical practice, he remains actively involved in medical education, professional training, humanitarian missions, and surgical mentorship.
