Dr Derek Park is an orthopaedic surgeon at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore.
Besides general orthopaedic surgery, he has subspecialty interests in foot and ankle surgery, and reconstructive and minimally invasive surgery for complex deformities in diabetic patients.
Dr Park was previously a senior consultant at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) and a visiting consultant at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He continues to be a visiting consultant at KTPH.
He graduated from The University of Auckland, New Zealand. He was a research fellow on the academic team at the University College London and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, UK, publishing research on cartilage disease and rare bone tumours. He undertook postgraduate orthopaedic surgical training at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and trained at several teaching hospitals in London, including the Royal London Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and the Royal Free Hospital.
Dr Park is dual-fellowship trained in orthopaedic trauma surgery, and foot and ankle surgery. He was awarded the British Orthopaedic Association’s travelling fellowships expanding his expertise in India, France and Germany. He obtained the Intercollegiate Fellowship in trauma and orthopaedic surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He was a consultant at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust before moving to Singapore. He has been practising medicine for more than 20 years.
He was an adjunct assistant professor at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He also held the position of clinical lead for the multi-disciplinary diabetic foot service and was a member of the National Healthcare Group’s clinical workgroup on diabetic feet at KTPH.
He has published 23 articles in peer-reviewed journals, authored two textbook chapters on foot and ankle surgery, and is on the editorial review panel for British, European and American Orthopaedic surgery journals. He is registered with the General Medical Council in the UK and the Singapore Medical Council as a specialist in orthopaedic surgery.
Dr Park is a recipient of the Service Champion Award at KTPH.
