Dr Chen Weihao is a gastroenterologist at Parkway East Hospital, Singapore. His specialties are inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis) and intestinal ultrasound. He can also perform diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy (including advanced imaging techniques such as chromoendoscopy), and video capsule endoscopy. Dr Chen was a gastroenterologist and hepatologist at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) where he set up the hospital’s services for inflammatory bowel disease and point-of-care intestinal ultrasound. He graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and underwent his specialist training at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Dr Chen was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan Award to undergo subspecialty training in inflammatory bowel disease and clinical nutrition at Austin Hospital, Australia. He also trained in Germany to become part of the first group of local gastroenterologists to be proficient in intestinal ultrasound. At NTFGH, he was a member of the hospital’s nutrition support team and was the main gastroenterologist responsible for the care of malnourished patients on parenteral nutrition as well as patients with short bowel syndrome and intestinal failure. Besides his clinical work, he taught medical students from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. Chuah Sai Wei

Dr Chuah Sai Wei is a gastroenterologist at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore. Her clinical expertise covers a broad range of gastrointestinal and liver conditions, with subspecialty interests in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). She routinely performs diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy, colonoscopy and capsule endoscopy. She was the former director of the IBD Centre at Singapore General Hospital (SGH). Dr Chuah graduated from the University of Glasgow, UK and is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, UK and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. She did an advanced fellowship training in gastroenterology in the area of IBD at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, UK. She was the co-chair of the executive committee for SGH’s Centre for Digestive and Liver Diseases. She was also on the SingHealth transition care workgroup and the vice-chair of the National Foundation of Digestive Diseases. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, and is regularly invited as a faculty and speaker at regional and international medical conferences. Besides her clinical work, Dr Chuah served on the core faculty for the SingHealth gastroenterology senior residency programme. She is a recipient of several awards including the Heart of Gold Award and the Service with a Heart awards.

Ong Eng Hui David

Dr David Ong is a gastroenterologist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore. He is experienced in treating and managing conditions of the stomach, bowel and liver, and his subspecialty is in treating inflammatory bowel diseases (such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease) with a focus on colorectal cancer surveillance and gut microbiome. Dr Ong was the head of gastroenterology and hepatology at the National University Hospital (NUH) and remains as a visiting senior consultant. Whilst at NUH, he held the positions of divisional director of clinical services, director of risk and values at the NUH cluster, and associate chairman of the medical board (medicolegal risk). He holds an adjunct associate professorship at National University of Singapore (NUS)’s department of medicine and is also an advisor and chair of the nomination committee of the international council. He serves as the incoming president of the Gastroenterology Society of Singapore and the honorary secretary of the Chapter of Gastroenterology, Academy of Medicine. In addition, he has served as a member of the Singapore Medical Council Complaints Panel since 2016. Dr Ong helped set up the inflammatory bowel disease unit at NUH and has published widely in this area. He has also been a speaker at local and global conferences on the topic. Shim Hang Hock

Dr Shim Hang Hock is a gastroenterologist at Gleneagles Hospital and Parkway East Hospital, Singapore. He has subspecialty interest in inflammatory bowel disease (ie. ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease) and digestive cancer screening. Dr Shim formally practised clinical gastroenterology and general hepatology in Singapore General Hospital (SGH) where he served as the director of Inflammatory Bowel Disease Centre and currently continues to be a visiting consultant. An avid educator, Dr Shim was appointed as adjunct assistant professor at Duke-NUS Medical School. He obtained his Bachelor of Medicine from University of Southampton, UK, in 2007 and was accredited as specialist in gastroenterology in 2015. In 2016, he was awarded the Healthcare Manpower Development Programme scholarship by Ministry of Health, Singapore to undergo advanced fellowship under the mentorship of Professors Remo Panaccione and Cynthia Seow at Calgary, Canada, one of the largest Inflammatory Bowel Disease units in the world. Dr Shim has published numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapter in high impact medical journals. He has also been an invited peer reviewer for medical journals and is closely involved in multiple clinical trials. These reflect his clinical expertise in the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) field, especially in managing patients with complicated disease, use of novel therapies, and pregnancy in IBD. Dr Shim sits on medical advisory boards and is regularly invited as a faculty/speaker in medical conferences both locally and regionally. He was a key member of the small bowel endoscopy service, and also contributed to the colorectal cancer screening service during his term in SGH. A firm believer in holistic, patient centric care, he is well-liked by his patients and has won several service-related awards for his dedicated care and service excellence.
