Dr. James Tan Wen Tien is a Senior Consultant Anesthetist and Pain Medicine specialist at The Pain and Perioperative Clinic @ Farrer, Singapore. He has extensive experience in both anesthesia and pain medicine, with active involvement in pain management at hospital and national levels since 2004. He graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, London) from the University of Leeds and University College London in 1998. Upon returning to Singapore, he completed specialist training in Anesthesiology, obtaining a Master of Medicine in Anesthesiology (Master of Medicine in Anesthesiology, National University of Singapore) in 2004 and specialist accreditation in 2006. He is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthesia). In 2009, he was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan scholarship to pursue advanced Pain Medicine training in Australia at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, under the mentorship of Professor Michael Cousins. His training included multidisciplinary chronic pain management, cancer pain care, cognitive-behavioral-based pain programs (ADAPT program), and advanced interventional pain procedures for refractory pain conditions. Dr. Tan previously served as Senior Consultant Anesthetist and Head of the Division of Pain Management Unit at the Department of Anaesthesia, National University Hospital (NUH), and was Assistant Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He has held leadership roles in regional pain societies, including Council Member of the Pain Association of Singapore and Scientific Chairperson for the Association of Southeast Asian Pain Societies meeting in 2013.
