Dr. Ramesh Subramaniam

Dr Ramesh Subramaniam is an orthopaedic surgeon at Mount Elizabeth Hospitals and Parkway East Hospital, Singapore. He subspecialises in arthroscopic sports surgery of the shoulder, knee, hip and elbow. He is also trained to perform knee, shoulder and elbow joint replacements. Dr Ramesh started the hip arthroscopy service at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). He is a visiting consultant at TTSH and Ng Teng Fong Hospital. He attained his bachelor's degrees from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and completed his master's degree in orthopaedic surgery in Singapore. He underwent advanced surgical training in orthopaedic surgery and became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK in trauma and orthopaedics. Dr Ramesh was awarded the Health Manpower Development Plan award by the Ministry of Health to pursue subspecialty training in shoulder and knee surgery at the Sports Surgery Clinic in Dublin, Ireland. He was then awarded the TTSH scholarship to pursue a sports fellowship in knee surgery at the Hospital Quirón Barcelona, Spain. As part of this training, Dr Ramesh spent time with the Mutualitat Catalana de Futbolistes' orthopaedic teams to care for the soccer players in Barcelona and the Spanish province of Catalunya. He also completed a fellowship in shoulder surgery at the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona and was trained in arthroscopic joint reconstruction and joint replacement surgeries. He was appointed clinical senior lecturer and then adjunct assistant professor at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. He is a faculty member of the National Healthcare Group's (NHG) residency programme and served as the chairman of NHG's hand surgery residency programme evaluation committee. As fellowship supervisor of sports surgery at TTSH, he has mentored clinical fellows from India, Philippines and Malaysia. Dr Ramesh has published numerous articles in international peer-reviewed journals. He has also presented his work at podium presentations in international conferences, and lectured and demonstrated surgery techniques at numerous international workshops and training courses for knee and shoulder surgery. He has volunteered with the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation to perform pro-bono surgery in Indonesia. He has been involved in Indosin Bhakti Sosial with the Singapore Navy to provide primary healthcare to villages in the Riau Islands, Indonesia. For his humanitarian relief work during the Yogyakarta earthquake in 2006, he was awarded the Ministry of Health award for humanitarian relief work.
