Dr Patrick Tan is a haematologist practising at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore. He treats diseases related to blood, and subspecialises in bone marrow transplant and transplant immunology, which is the transfer of cells, tissues or organs. Types of transplant immunology include sibling allogeneic transplant, unrelated allogeneic transplant, autologous (using own stem cells) transplant and cord blood transplant. Dr Tan is a pioneer in the field of cord blood and stem cell transplant. He performed the world's first successful case of unrelated blood stem cell transplant and unrelated cord blood transplant for thalassemia major, a rare inherited blood disorder. In 1988, Dr Tan was posted as special Fellow to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre in Seattle, USA, to carry out subspecialty work in bone marrow transplant and transplant immunology. He was invited back to in 1991. Dr Tan was formerly the head of the Department of Haematology at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) in 1993. In 1995, he was the chairman of the Chapter of Haematology at the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. In 1997, Dr Tan was appointed as the director of the National Blood Centre, Health Science Authority. He became the medical director of the Haematology and Stem Cell Transplant Centre at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in 2004. In the same year, Dr Tan was appointed the first medical director of the Singapore Cord Blood Bank. Aside from clinical work, Dr Tan was also appointed as a clinical associate professor in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at NUS.

Goh Ting Hui Angeline

Dr Angeline Goh is a renal medicine specialist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore. She subspecialises in kidney transplantation. She also cares for conditions related to kidney diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus and urinary tract infections. Dr Goh has more than 20 years of experience in clinical medicine. She is well-versed in the use of immunosuppressants, and has spent over a decade caring for kidney transplant recipients and donors. Having cared for more than 400 prevalent kidney transplant recipients, she understands the need for regular monitoring to keep transplant recipients in good health. Prior to starting private practice, Dr Goh was a senior consultant nephrologist and transplant physician at the National University Hospital (NUH), where she was in charge of the Living Donor Kidney Transplant (LDKT) programme. Under her leadership, more than 100 new living donor kidney transplants have been performed in the National University Centre for Organ Transplantation from 2013 – 2019. Dr Goh underwent advanced specialty training in renal medicine at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH), and became an associate consultant in 2007. The importance of maintaining good kidney function after a transplant has led her to further develop preventive nephrology in her practice. Preventive nephrology is about preventing kidney failure, and is done through identification of urinary abnormalities such as blood or protein in the urine, and diagnosis of diabetes and hypertension. She has developed her own programme to monitor and advise patients on how best to maintain good kidney function to ensure good overall health. She strongly believes that good kidney function is a prerequisite for a healthy life. Dr Goh was a former assistant professor in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS, and external lecturer for the School of Health Sciences, Nanyang Polytechnic. She was formerly in charge of the overall teaching schedule for renal medicine trainees in SGH, and was core faculty in charge of transplant teaching for the Nephrology Senior Residency Programme in NUH. She helped to train fellows from the International Society of Nephrology from Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Brunei, as part of the development of the Transplant Programme in regional countries. Dr Goh has been actively involved in research in kidney transplantation and has presented in regional and international conferences. She was awarded a Poster of Distinction at the American Transplant Congress in 2009 for her work, “Survival of Second Liver Allografts is Influenced by Anti-HLA Class I Antibodies”, and has published her research in local and international medical journals.

Kua Jieli

Dr Kua Jieli is a cardiologist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore. His specialty is interventional cardiology. He was previously a senior consultant at the National University Heart Centre and Ng Teng Fong Hospital in Singapore, where he led the post-myocardial infarction (heart attack) clinic. He is currently a visiting consultant at the National University Health System. Dr Kua graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He was awarded the Academic Medicine Development Award and completed advanced training in interventional cardiology at Hammersmith Hospital, UK. He gained experience in complex procedures while kept updated with the latest research. Thereafter, he was elected as a fellow and honorary consultant at Hammersmith Hospital Imperial Healthcare Trust, UK. He has been practising medicine for more than 15 years. He has performed over 5,000 invasive coronary angiographies and percutaneous coronary interventions. Dr Kua has also managed complex cardiovascular cases including left main disease, chronic total occlusions and calcified lesions. Dr Kua was elected fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians, UK and the Asian-Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology. He is also an active member of the Western STEMI regional network committee and serves as the secretary for the PCI chapter of the Singapore Cardiac Society. Besides his clinical work, he is a clinical lecturer at NUS. His research has been published in numerous per-reviewed journals such as the European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery and the European Heart Journal. Additionally, his findings have been showcased at conferences like the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics, where he has also received awards for his contributions.

Lim Lee Guan

Dr Lim Lee Guan is a gastroenterologist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore. His clinical interests are in general gastroenterology and liver diseases, and advanced endoscopy for the screening, diagnosis and management of a wide spectrum of gastrointestinal diseases. These include tumours and pre-cancerous conditions of the oesophagus, stomach, intestines, pancreas and liver/biliary systems, and endoscopic ultrasound and fine needle aspiration biopsy and injection. Prior to joining private practice, he was a gastroenterologist at a private hospital and the National University Hospital (NUH). He is currently a visiting gastroenterologist at Ng Teng Fong Hospital. Dr Lim obtained his bachelor degree at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He subsequently obtained membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK), underwent advanced specialist training in gastroenterology at NUH, and obtained the fellowships of Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh) and Academy of Medicine. After obtaining the Health Manpower Development Plan award, Dr Lim did 1-year specialised training in advanced endoscopic imaging including endoscopic ultrasound and endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration and biopsy/injection in Germany at Universitätsmedizin der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz and Technical University of Munich University Hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar. He later received a scholarship for a clinical attachment at Kyushu University Hospital, Japan, which focused on advanced endoscopic imaging for cancer detection and endoscopic management of gastrointestinal pre-cancer and cancer. He has given presentations at international meetings and has been invited as faculty for gastroenterology courses and endoscopy workshops. He has received research grants and awards, including the Young Investigator Award at the Asia Pacific Digestive Week and Poster of Distinction at Digestive Disease Week in USA. He has also written chapters for numerous medical books and published in top international journals, and is on the editorial board of the BMJ Open Gastroenterology, published by the British Medical Journal in partnership with the British Society of Gastroenterology. He previously served as an executive committee member of the Gastroenterological Society of Singapore and committee member of the National Foundation For Digestive Diseases. Dr Lim was an assistant professor at NUS, and consultant gastroenterologist at NUH, where he was clinical director, postgraduate training director, and programme director of the ACGME-I gastroenterology fellowship programme. He is a recipient of the Excellent Service Award (Star) and Excellent Service Award (Gold), as well as the National Healthcare Group Excellence Award for Teaching. He has been selected and sponsored by the World Gastroenterology Organisation for the Train-the-Trainers Workshop in Porto, Portugal. He has been practising medicine for more than 20 years.
