Dr. Cheong Chee Keong Edward

Dr. Edward Cheong is a Senior Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgeon practising at PanAsia Surgery Clinic and Surgi-Ten Specialists. He also serves as a Visiting Consultant at Thomson Specialists, Thomson Medical Centre. With more than three decades of experience, he specializes in upper gastrointestinal surgery, focusing on minimally invasive and endoscopic management of oesophageal and gastric diseases. His practice is dedicated to providing advanced surgical care using evidence-based techniques that improve patient outcomes while promoting faster recovery. Dr. Cheong has extensive expertise in minimally invasive oesophagectomy, minimally invasive oesophago-gastric surgery, laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery, therapeutic endoscopy for early upper GI cancers, and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols. He also has significant experience in the management of complex post-operative complications, including anastomotic leaks. His clinical interests primarily involve the treatment of oesophageal cancer, gastric cancer, and other upper gastrointestinal disorders requiring advanced surgical intervention. He completed higher specialist surgical training at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in the United Kingdom before undertaking a post-CCT Senior Surgical Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), USA, where he received advanced training in minimally invasive oesophagectomy, gastric surgery, bariatric surgery, and endoscopic treatment for early upper GI cancers. Prior to entering private practice, Dr. Cheong served as Senior Consultant Upper GI and Laparoscopic Surgeon as well as Upper GI Cancer Director at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, where he introduced minimally invasive oesophagectomy, ERAS protocols, and advanced endoscopic therapies. He remains actively involved in international surgical education and has received multiple awards recognizing his clinical excellence, innovation, and contributions to minimally invasive upper GI surgery.
